How We Work
Welcome to the How We Work section. Here you will find information on how West Yorkshire Police Authority works.

Responsibility for policing is shared between the Home Secretary, the Chief Constable and the Police Authority. This ensures that the police service delivered to people in West Yorkshire takes into account both local and national priorities.

The Police Authority is an independent body with clear statutory duties. Its primary duty is to ensure an efficient and effective police service on behalf of the population of West Yorkshire.

The Members that make up the Police Authority, supported by a small team of staff, work with the Chief Constable to achieve the primary duty.

The links on the left hand side will show how the Authority operates and its key governing documents.

Please use the menu on the left for more information.
